Jay Riches, 77, of Indian Mills, New Jersey, passed away suddenly at his home on December 12, 2023. He was born August 19, 1946, in Rockledge, FL. He was the oldest of six siblings. Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Holt Riches, and his daughters Gretchen Gross (David) and Bronya Riches. He was a cherished grandfather to Jayson Riches-Sutton, Sydney Riches, Devon Gross, Keely Riches, and Gavin Gross.

After graduating from Cocoa High in 1964, Jay embarked on a distinguished career in the United States Navy, where he served our country for 21 years. He retired at the rank of E8 and was proud of his service, which included tours in Vietnam. In August of 1971 he married his wife Margaret in Australia. They welcomed their first daughter in 1975 and their second daughter in 1977. Jay attended Villanova University earning his bachelor’s degree.

Following his retirement from the Navy, Jay dedicated his time to various organizations. He worked for the County of Burlington, the Burlington-Bristol Bridge Commission, the Delaware River Bridge Commission, the Pinelands Commission, the State of NJ and most recently Miller Ford, leaving a lasting impact through his dedication and commitment.

Jay was not only a dedicated professional but also a passionate sports enthusiast. In his free time, he could often be found on a baseball/softball field or a basketball court, either coaching or officiating. He was actively involved with the Republican Club and served on the Shamong Township Board at one time.

Jay Riches will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community. He leaves behind a legacy of service and passion that will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
