VFW Members Support Opening Day Ceremonies

Joe Painting - 4/11/2019

The Opening Day event for the Medford Youth Athletic Association (MYAA) Girls’ Softball League began at 1100 hours with a parade around the Hartford Road Softball Field Complex led by the Medford VFW Post 7677 Color Guard, followed by Medford Township Police And Fire vehicles and the softball teams and coaching staffs. The teams marched onto the field and ringed the infield.  The Color Guard was stationed behind second base. The Colors were posted and the National Anthem played by an extremely talented youth musician.

The "first pitch” ceremony featured Medford VFW Post 7677’s own Fred Hartman, soon to be 95 years old World War II Veteran. Fred joined the Second Armored Division as a replacement on D plus 2 on the beaches of Normandy in June, 1944 and drove a tank destroyer across Europe. Fred threw a strike on the outside corner to the delight of his family and friends who were present for the ceremony.
