John W. Merefield, Sr. "Butch” of Medford, NJ died peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family On February 24, 2025. He was 75. Son of the late John S. and Ethel (Shover) Merefield and stepfather of the late William, Butch is survived by his wife Joy (nee Phillips); Son John, Jr. "Jay” (Nikki); grandson, Chase Merefield; Stepdaughter, Sarah Blair (Randy) and step grandchildren, Kyle (Katie) Blair and Julie Blair; great step granddaughter, Hannah Blair; and sister Elaine Davis (Harvey). A lifelong resident of Medford, Butch served in the US Army. He was a fireman for 60 years for Union Fire Co., a member of Union Fire Co. Medford EMS, life member of NJ State Firemen’s Relief Association, and Secretary of Medford Fire Relief Association. He was a carpenter for Lockheed Martin in Moorestown for 39 years. He was a member of Medford VFW Post #7677. A Viewing will be held Sunday evening, March 2, 2025 from 6-8 PM and Monday, March 3, 2025 from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Lechner Funeral Home, 24 N. Main St., Medford. Burial is in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Butch’s memory may be made to the Union Fire Co., 1 Firehouse Lane, Medford, NJ 08055.
