William John McCartney, Jr. 92, passed away on March 27, 2021 at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland, NJ. William "Bill", "Reds" was born on September 17, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pa to William John Sr and Abigail Theda (nee McGowan) McCartney. Bill married Joan Avalon Woodside in May of 1951 in Palmyra, New Jersey. They were happily married for 48 years until her passing on December 5, 1999. Bill was an active member of the VFW in Moorestown, NJ. He collected golf balls and enjoyed the casino and travelling. Bill was predeceased by his father, mother, sister Mae Abigail Flynn (nee McCartney) and his wife, Joan Ann Keiser (nee McCartney). He is survived by half-sister, Elizabeth McCartney; his four children; Judith Joan (Joseph) Yike-Green of Williamstown, NJ, Karen (Michael) Dixon of Walker, Iowa, William John III (Elizabeth) of Maple Shade, NJ and Peggy Marie (William) Ingoglia of Wantagh, New York; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives. Bill served in the Marines, fought in Korea, was in the Army and National Guard. While in the Marines he was a boxer in the Golden Gloves. He started a boxing club in Moorestown, NJ. The family will be greeting friends and relatives on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 6pm to 8pm at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 South Lincoln Avenue, Vineland, NJ. The burial will be held at a later date at Beverly National Cemetery, 916 Bridgeboro Road, Beverly, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Bayada Hospice or the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home, Vineland, NJ.
