Medford - Richard J. Grimm passed away at his home in Medford on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at the age of 87 years.

Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Richard attended Great Falls College in Montana before joining the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy, he studied aviation and aerology; landed planes on aircraft cruisers; and traveled to exotic lands, including Europe and French Morocco. He also taught geophysics and microseismology as part of the Microseismic Research Project in Opa-locka, Florida. In addition to attending Harvard University, he studied at Temple University, earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Industrial Management. At Scatton Manufacturing Company, Philadelphia, he distinguished himself as a design engineer, and held a patent in structural design. He also worked as a buyer at Univac and as a project manager and purchasing agent at Philco, both in Philadelphia, and he held various engineering and management roles at RCA Camden. Early in his career, Richard found time to pursue a passion for racecars, and he drove in a number of races for Porsche, including at Watkins Glen and at the Giant's Despair Hillclimb in 1969. On retiring from RCA in the 1980s as a manufacturing manager, Richard helped his wife pursue her passion for horseback riding by developing a horse farm for her. He poured labor and love into creating several pastures with fencing and designing and building a barn that stables up to 10 horses. 

Richard was a curmudgeon and loyal friend who will be remembered fondly as an opinionated man of exceptional intelligence who loved horses, dogs, fast cars, and pretty women. He enjoyed entertaining a wide assortment of friends, and appreciated intelligence and lively political debates.
